Why the moments you saved mislead
Screenshots are the least representative sample of a conversation and the one most shaped by how you already feel about it.
On iOS 26 or later, the free Grey Mirror Import shortcut reads one Messages conversation on your iPhone and sends it straight to your analysis. No computer, backup, export file or screenshots. Your analysis is free, with no card required.

Yes. On iOS 26 or later, the free Grey Mirror Import shortcut reads one Messages conversation directly on your iPhone and sends it to Grey Mirror. There is no export file, no computer, no backup and no screenshots, which makes it the fastest way to put a complete iPhone conversation into a relationship analyzer. Choose the conversation once, and Grey Mirror analyzes the whole history for who reaches out first, how reply timing changed, conflict and repair. Preview your real relationship story free; the complete report costs $19.99 once.
The export step is gone
Screenshot analyzers made the first step feel quick, then left you scrolling, capturing and uploading screen after screen, and they still read only the moments you captured. Exporting an iMessage thread was worse: it usually meant a Mac or paid desktop software. On iOS 26, Apple added Messages actions to Shortcuts, and Grey Mirror Import uses them to read the conversation itself on your phone. You choose the chat once. The messages arrive with their dates and senders, so nothing is retyped, cropped or guessed from an image.
Step by step on your iPhone
Do this on the iPhone that holds the conversation. Adding the shortcut is a one-time step; every later import starts at Connect Messages.
If the import stops partway, return to Grey Mirror and tap Resume in Shortcuts. It carries on from where it stopped, and the messages already received are kept. You can resume within a day of starting, or analyze what has arrived at any point.
Apple’s list of the actions added to Shortcuts in iOS 26, including the Messages actions the import relies on.
Apple’s steps for checking your iOS version and updating to iOS 26.
How the Shortcuts app adds, runs and manages shortcuts on iPhone.
The shortcut reads what Messages stores on the phone for the conversation you choose. Knowing the edges keeps a finding honest.
Pick your route
Every route ends in the same analysis of the whole supplied history. The difference is how much work it takes to get the conversation in.
Use Grey Mirror Import. No export, no computer, no screenshots.
The Grey Mirror Mac app reads the Messages and Apple Mail threads already on the machine. Pick the conversation and press Analyze.
Update to iOS 26, or export the conversation with a Mac or desktop tool and upload the file.
Unbubble exports iMessage to PDF and CSV free on your iPhone, with no Mac or PC. A separate Windows version is available too.
Export the chat once from the app and upload the TXT, ZIP, JSON or HTML file.
The shortcut runs on your phone with Apple’s own Messages actions. Grey Mirror never asks for an Apple ID, iCloud password or verification code, never logs into your Apple account, and never sends anything to the other person.
What the whole thread can answer
A complete history answers questions that a few screenshots cannot, because each one is a comparison across time.
Compare who starts conversations, who asks questions back and who reconnects after a gap, across every month.
Find the point where reply timing, message length or warmth measurably shifted, and which moved first.
Set today’s reply times against your own baseline instead of a rule of thumb.
See what followed each conflict: an apology, a change, or a return to normal with nothing resolved.
Speed is only useful if the result is complete. The direct import removes the export step without trimming the conversation, so the analysis covers ordinary days as well as the memorable ones. Each finding links to the messages behind it and states its limits, which is what lets you check the reading instead of trusting it.
These limits come from Apple’s Shortcuts actions and from what a message history can show.
On an iPhone with iOS 26 or later, use the Grey Mirror Import shortcut: choose the conversation once and it is read straight from Messages, with no export, computer or screenshots. On a Mac, the Grey Mirror app reads the Messages already on the machine. On other apps, export the chat once and upload the file. Every route analyzes the whole supplied history, not a sample, and the analysis is free with no card required.
Yes. On iOS 26 or later, Grey Mirror Import reads one Messages conversation directly on your iPhone and sends it to your Grey Mirror account. There is no export file to create, find or upload, and no computer or backup is needed.
Yes, for any conversation longer than a few screens. A screenshot analyzer needs every screen captured and uploaded, and it can only read what you captured. The iPhone import needs one choice of conversation, then reads the messages themselves with their dates and senders, including the quiet weeks a screenshot never shows.
Grey Mirror is built to be both. On iPhone with iOS 26 and on Mac it reads the conversation directly, with no export and no screenshots, and it analyzes the entire history you supply rather than a pasted excerpt. It measures initiation, reply timing, effort, conflict, repair and affection across all of it, and links each finding to the messages behind it.
No. The import runs on the iPhone itself. A computer is only needed for an iPhone that cannot run iOS 26; for that, follow the iMessage export guide and upload the file.
Apple’s Shortcuts actions cannot search one chat on its own, so the import passes your messages through Grey Mirror’s servers. Only the conversation you choose is kept; everything else is discarded on arrival and never stored.
No. The shortcut uses Apple’s own Messages actions on your phone. Grey Mirror never asks for an Apple ID, iCloud password or verification code, and it does not send messages to the other person.
Any iPhone running iOS 26 or later, because Apple added the Messages actions the shortcut relies on in iOS 26. Check Settings → General → About. On an older version, update in Settings → General → Software Update, or export the conversation instead.
No. The direct import reads one-to-one conversations and stops with a clear message if you choose a group chat.
Return to Grey Mirror and tap Resume in Shortcuts. The import carries on from where it stopped instead of starting over, and the messages already received are kept. You can resume within a day of starting, or analyze what has arrived at any point.
The import reads the messages stored on your iPhone for that conversation. If older messages were removed from the phone, the shortcut cannot read them, so check the dates covered before reading findings about early months.
Yes. Importing and the analysis preview are free, with no card required. The complete report, with the full timeline, Memory Lane, charts, metrics and the messages behind each finding, costs $19.99 once.

You pick one conversation in an Apple Shortcut on your iPhone, and only that chat is sent.
The Shortcut reads back through time and saves each stretch, so a stop loses little and can resume.
The messages reach Grey Mirror over an encrypted connection, and the read runs there rather than on your phone.
Direct import replaces the export step, but the read can only cover the history your iPhone still holds.
