What happens to your messages after you upload them?

Understand what Grey Mirror processes, how to remove your uploaded conversation, and where to get help with your data. Read this before sharing a thread that contains someone else’s words as well as your own.

By Layne Weant

Does Grey Mirror connect to my messages?

No. Grey Mirror analyzes the exported file you choose to upload. It does not connect to your messaging account or read messages you have not provided. Report generation runs on service infrastructure after upload. You can request deletion of your stored conversation and its analysis.

What does a report use?

The upload can contain message text, dates, sender names and other details included in your export. Grey Mirror processes those records into participant labels, measurements and report findings. Your account and payment or earned-unlock status determine which report you can access.

How can I remove my conversation?

Use the deletion controls while signed in, or email privacy@justlay.me if you cannot access your account. The data-deletion page explains the request process and what a deletion covers.

  • Requests cover uploaded exports, parsed messages, computed metrics and stored report content in the systems we control.
  • Account deletion and deletion of a conversation are different scopes; check which you are requesting.
  • Active-system deletion does not mean instant removal from every backup. Required billing, security or legal records may be retained separately.
  • For a data access or export request, use the privacy request route or contact privacy@justlay.me.

Can I remove identifying details before uploading?

Mirror Veil can redact identifying details locally in your browser before you choose to upload an export. Review the result yourself: a conversation can still contain sensitive context even after names are removed.

  • Keep only the conversation you intend to analyze and check that you have permission to share it.
  • Redaction does not make an uploaded report local-only or remove all identifying context.
  • Read the privacy policy for retention, model-provider and analytics details before deciding to upload.

Where should users go next?

These pages explain the current policy and the available request routes. If your question concerns a specific account or report, contact us without attaching the conversation itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I delete my uploaded conversation?

Yes. Use the signed-in deletion controls and read the data-deletion page for the scope and process. Email privacy@justlay.me if you cannot access your account. Backups and required operational records have separate retention limits.

Can I analyze a conversation without uploading it?

Grey Mirror report generation requires an uploaded export and runs on service infrastructure. Mirror Veil can redact a file locally before upload, but the report itself is not generated entirely in your browser.

Where can I ask about training, retention or privacy?

Read the current privacy policy for the model-provider, training-data and retention boundaries. Contact privacy@justlay.me for questions about your account, access, correction, export or deletion.

Keep the local file and the server report distinct in your thinking. Removing one does not automatically explain the status of the other.
