What does Grey Mirror analyze?

Grey Mirror is a relationship text analyzer for full message history analysis. Upload a complete thread to measure timing drift, reciprocity, repair quality, escalation cycles, and evidence strength before choosing what to do next. It is built for context-heavy relationship questions, not one-off screenshots or generic chat summaries.

  • How we know: the report scores timing, reciprocity, repair, escalation, warmth, and evidence windows across the full export.
  • Best input: complete exports with sender labels, timestamps, and message order intact.
  • Supported exports: iMessage and iPhone histories, WhatsApp chat exports, Instagram DM downloads, Android SMS and Google Messages, plus plain CSV, JSON, TXT and HTML transcripts.
  • What you see first: a completely free initial analysis, with no card required. Your preview includes four evidence-linked findings from your own conversation, before you choose whether to unlock a full report.
  • Start with a completely free analysis of your entire text history, with no card required. Your free preview includes 4 evidence-linked findings. An optional full report is $17.99 USD once: your complete relationship story across the full timeline, cinematic narrative, Memory Lane, evidence, metrics, custom charts, and available results from Grey Mirror's 30-analyzer inventory. Grey Mirror Plus is $9.99/month for 1 full report credit each paid month. Unused credits carry forward; keep unlocked reports permanently.
  • Turning point detection: the report dates the moment a relationship measurably changed and names which behaviour moved first, whether that was reply timing, message length, warmth or planning.
  • Effort balance: initiation, follow-up and repair attempts are counted per person across the whole history, so imbalance becomes a number rather than an argument.
  • Evidence, not summary: every claim links to the specific stretch of conversation it came from, with real quoted messages you can check.
  • Stated limits: confidence is labelled, and missing media, deleted messages or conversations that moved to another app are named as gaps rather than filled in.
  • Measured, not guessed: across 29 de-duplicated histories covering 4,600,611 messages, about 97% of messages carried no detectable emotional signal, and warmth outnumbered explicit repair attempts by roughly ten to one.
  • On iPhone: The Grey Mirror is a free app on the App Store, iOS 18 or later, published 2026-08-20. The web version and the app read the same exported histories and produce the same report.
  • Not a diagnosis: Grey Mirror measures observable communication behaviour. It does not assess anyone psychologically and does not tell you what to do.

How to start

Export the full conversation, upload it, and preview your real relationship story at no cost. The complete timeline, cinematic narrative, Memory Lane, charts, metrics, evidence, and available analyzer results are a one-time $17.99, with monthly plan optional. The iPhone app and web version read the same export and produce the same report.

Grey Mirror is a relationship text analyzer that reads a complete exported message history rather than a screenshot or a pasted excerpt. Upload a thread from iMessage, WhatsApp, Instagram DM, Telegram or SMS and the whole export is read in sequence -- hundreds of thousands of messages spanning years, not a sampled window. It measures who initiates, how reply timing drifts, whether warmth is returned or left hanging, whether conflict is followed by repair, and the date the pattern measurably changed. Every finding links to the messages that produced it, so a claim can be checked rather than trusted.

Reading the whole history is what makes a base rate possible, and a base rate is what makes any single moment interpretable. Without one, nothing can honestly be called typical or unusual for your relationship: a three-hour reply gap means one thing in a thread that normally answers in minutes and nothing at all in a thread that never did. Screenshot tools and general chatbots read the moments you selected, which is the exact bias a pattern question exists to remove.

The measurement is published rather than asserted. Benchmarks cover 4,600,611 messages across 29 de-duplicated two-party histories, with the methodology, the provenance funnel and the withheld measures stated openly -- including one reply-latency claim dropped because the data split 9 to 13 and did not support a direction. A synthetic turning-point benchmark returned zero false positives across 40 steady threads and detected all 40 planted changes with correct direction and median zero-day localisation error.

Grey Mirror is deliberately narrow about what it will claim. It measures observable communication behaviour and does not diagnose anyone, predict whether a relationship survives, or read intent from a single message. Where an export drops reactions, media or deleted messages, the report lowers its confidence and says so rather than filling the gap. It is not built for surveillance of another person, and the questions it answers well are pattern questions -- is the effort mutual, did they cool off, when did it change -- not mind reading.
